The Commitment
Important Recital Dates
By allowing your child to participate in the Expressions Academy of Dance recital, you commit yourself and/or your child to the following dates and events.
Important Dates to Remember:

Updates
As the season progresses, additional recital information or updates will be posted on the Expressions Academy website, www.expressionsacademydance.com, in monthly newsletters, and on the school bulletin board. Make it your responsibility to keep on top of this important information. Our goal is to make the recital an organized, exciting experience for everyone involved. It’s a team effort: students, their parents, the teachers, and the director are key players in the show’s success.

Tights, Shoes, Hair, and Makeup

Tights
To ensure that there are no discrepancies in color and style, tights will be available for purchase at the studio. (Note: Having a second pair of tights on hand offers students and parents a great sense of security.)
Shoes
Be sure that all shoes are cleaned prior to the recital.
If you purchase dance shoes just before the recital, please break them in (indoors) so that they are pliable and comfortable for the recital.
Hair and makeup
Students under the age of 12 are not required to wear makeup for the recital, however a little color on the cheeks and lips is recommended due to the bright stage lights.

Costumes & Recital Fee
Costume Rental Fee- Due October 7th- Last Day to Register
$25- Ages 2-7      $35- Ages 8+     ** Price is per costume**

We spend many hours selecting the costumes for each class. They are always age- appropriate and of the highest quality possible. Students will need one costume for each class they train in. Costume rentals include all accessories (hats, gloves, etc.)
Recital Fee- Due November 18th
The recital fee is $50 per family. It includes two tickets for the recital, and T-shirt for each dancer. The recital fee goes towards renting the facility, lighting and sound technicians and janitorial staff. The fee is $50 for the family, not per student. If your dancer is in multiple shows, you will receive two tickets to your choice of one of the shows.

NOTE: No jewelry or nail polish is to be worn with costumes. This includes during dress rehearsals, performances, and when class pictures are taken.
Costume payment is due by the 7th of October by cash, check or credit card. If you are enrolled in our auto pay program for tuition, costume fees are NOT pulled from that card unless you ask the office staff to do so.
Sizing
Costume measuring begins during the second week of class in October, during scheduled class times. All children will be measured in order to determine their proper costume size(s).

Changing Leotards are required for all dancers
Due to the rental of costumes and changing at the theater, all performers are required to have a tan changing leotard. These are available for purchase through Expressions Academy until October 7th; please see the front desk if you need to order one.
Child leotard: $15 plus tax        Adult leotard: $20 plus tax

Shoes and tights are NOT included in your costume fee
Dancers are responsible for providing their own shoes and tights. We recommend visiting a local dance wear store or Payless shoe source for the shoes, or ordering on the Discount Dance website. Tights are available for purchase through Expressions Academy until October 7th; please see the front desk if you need to order them.

Dress Rehearsal

Participation in the dress rehearsal is mandatory. The dress rehearsal allows the students to become familiar with the auditorium surroundings and feel comfortable with their performance, costume(s), and being onstage. Lighting, music cues, set changes, and all other logistics for an organized and professional performance are rehearsed so that the students make the best impression possible. One of the main objectives of our curriculum is to teach the spirit of teamwork and commitment to classmates.

Dressing-room etiquette
Students must respect other students’ space and property in the dressing rooms. The students will spend more time in the dressing rooms than onstage or in the auditorium, so please do your best to keep them organized and clean. No food or drink is allowed in the dressing rooms.

Dress-rehearsal guests
One parent or guardian must accompany each student to the dress rehearsal and stay with the student for the entirety of the rehearsal.

Audience etiquette
Children should not bring handheld electronic games or other devices with sounds and/or lights that could be a distraction for other audience members.
Because we present a professional performance, we ask that everyone remain seated during the entire performance. If you do leave the auditorium during the show you will be allowed back into the auditorium only between dances. This rule is strictly enforced; please do not create a disturbance with the auditorium ushers in regard to this policy.
The use of video or flash photography is strictly prohibited during the recital. It is important that you pass this policy on to your recital guests.

Student Drop off and Pickup
Dress Rehearsals
Parents or guardians will remain in the theater with their dancer until they have rehearsed their last dance.

Recital Performances
Parents or guardians should bring the students to their assigned dressing rooms, where they will be checked in and placed under the supervision of EAD Staff.

NOTE: Please do not attempt to pick up your child during the performance.

Please confirm your child’s time on the updated schedule to be distributed the week of November 6th. After the group photo shoot, students may choose to have solo portraits made in any or all of their costumes. There is no obligation to purchase photos. Please arrive at least twenty minutes before your child’s scheduled time since photo shoots tend to run ahead of schedule.
